Day 1 –
Cappadocia (B) (L) (D)
at your Ankara hotel, or upon early morning arrival of your
flight at Ankara Airport. We will visit the Mausoleum of Mustafa
Kemal Ataturk, the father of modern Turkey. This beautiful
landmark is perched atop a hill with a panoramic view of the
city. We will visit a famous Sufi's place in 'Haci
Bayram Mosque'. We will also visit the magnificent
Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. In the afternoon, we will
depart Ankara and turn the sights toward Cappadocia, where
nature has scoured surrealistic moonscape shapes, and the
persecuted Christians dug underground cities and churches
during the 9th century. During
the 4 1/2 hour drive to this region, we will stop frequently
for rest. Dinner and overnight in
Day 2 - Cappadocia(B) (L) (D)
day Cappadocia visit, including Goreme Open Air Museum, Avanos
the pottery making town. Explore
one of the oldest settlements of the region - Goreme. The
chimney-like, rock formations that spread throughout
Cappadocia's rugged landscape are as fantastic as man's
accomplishments within its stone. Visit the Byzantine churches
of Goreme carved into the cliffs and caves with colorful
frescoes dating to the 7th century. Originally, there was a
church for every day of the year. Learn how the colorful
kilims (carpets) that echo the earth tones of the region are
made during a demonstration by local weavers and a photo stop
at the ancient natural citadel of Uchisar. We
visit the Valley of Fairy
Chimneys, Village of Cavusin , Zelve Open-Air Museum and Urgup and Rose Valley to see the sunset.
Turn back to hotel and dinner overnight.(Tonight you may join the
optional Turkish Night Floor Show).
Day 3- Cappadocia(B)
breakfast, we will visit Underground
City of Kaymakli.While in Cappadocia
we will enjoy an excellent lecture and demonstration on
Turkish carpets and kilims. We will visit handcraft shops. We will also visit a
Caravan-Saray, an ancient caravan motel. After breakfast, visit the underground city of
Kaymakli (built by the early Christians to evade Roman
Armies). Then visit the Caravanserai, from the
Seljuk period, located on the Ancient Silk Road, on the way to
Ankara. Transfer to your hotel in Ankara, or to Ankara airport
for your evening flight.
