Discover the history rich Turkey on this luxurious 13-day trip in a group tour limited to 32 travelers. A truly memorable tour covering Turkey’s most exciting historical destinations such as Ephesus, Pergamum, Sardis, Pamukkale, Antalya and Istanbul. Enjoy the comfort of flying between major cities instead of driving.

Day 1- Istanbul (D)

Welcome to Turkey! A warm welcome and assistance by your tour guide at Istanbul Airport and transfer to your hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure. Later, welcome dinner with your fellow travelers. Overnight in Istanbul.

Day 2- Istanbul (B) (L) (D)

Full day tour of the city’s highlights, including the St. Sophia Church (Museum), the main Byzantine edifice in the city dating back to 537 AD, the Blue Mosque, the ancient Hippodrome, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts and the nearby Basilica Cistern built by Justinian in AD 537. Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.

Day 3- Istanbul  (B) (L) (D)

Morning visit to the Spice Market of Istanbul followed by a cruise along the Bosphorus. After lunch, visit the magnificent Topkapi Palace. Enjoy the exquisite collection of Chinese porcelain, the stunning Imperial Treasury including the Spoonmaker’s Diamond and the Topkapi Dagger before driving to the Grand Covered Bazaar with its 4000 tiny shops. Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.

Day 4- Izmir – Pergamum & Sardis (B) (L) (D)

Morning transfer to the airport for a short flight to Izmir. Upon arrival drive through Izmir to the Greco-Roman city of Pergamon  (Bergama), capital of a pre-Roman kingdom, also a center of learning and the arts. Visit its acropolis, and Aesculapium, Galen's famous medical center. Later drive to Sardis, site of one of the 7 Churches of Asia Minor and a very important Jewish city of antiquity. To Izmir for dinner and overnight.

Day 5- Ephesus - Izmir (B) (L) (D)

Full day to explore Ephesus. Walking toward the ancient harbor, you pass architectural masterpieces like the Odeon, Hercules Gate, Hadrian’s Temple, Celcius Library and arrive at the Great Amphitheater. Here silversmith Demetrius and his friends started a riot against St. Paul. In the afternoon visit the nearby Basilica of St. John, the remains of the Temple of Artemis, one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World and the Virgin Mary's stone cottage, where she is believed to have spent her last days. Return to Izmir for dinner and overnight.

Day 6- Aphrodisias - Pamukkale (B) (L) (D)

Morning drive to the Roman-Byzantine city of Aphrodisias, named after the Greek Goddess of Love. Visit the well-preserved theater, stadium and the museum, which houses magnificent sculptures excavated in the Mediterranean basin. Then to Pamukkale to visit the magnificent natural rock formations in Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) and the ancient Roman City of Hierapolis with its theater, baths, necropolis and the shrine to Pluto, lord of the underworld. Enjoy a refreshing dip in your hotel's thermal pool. Dinner and overnight in Pamukkale.

Day 7- Pamukkale - Antalya (B) (L) (D)

Morning drive to Antalya through the magnificent Taurus Mountains. Upon arrival visit one of the many waterfalls of Antalya, the Hadrian’s Gate and the old harbor. Dinner and overnight in Antalya.

Day 8- Antalya (B) (L) (D)

Full day excursion to the Hellenistic and Roman cities of Perge and Aspendos. In the morning stop by the Hadrian’s Gate and the Ancient Harbor. Then drive to Perge to visit the ruins of this Greco-Roman city that was once visited by St. Paul. Next stop is Aspendos with its impressive theater, which can seat 15,000 spectators. Today it is still in use for cultural performances.  Return to Antalya for a sunset cruise on the romantic Mediterranean. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight. 

Day 9- Antalya – Ankara - Cappadocia  (B) (L) (D)

Morning flight to Ankara for the world famous Museum of Anatolian Civilizations to see the artifacts dating back to the Old Stone, Neolithic, Bronze, Phrygian and Hittite Ages. Next visit the mausoleum of Kemal Ataturk, founder of the modern republic of Turkey. En route to Cappadocia, visit a Caravansaray, an ancient inn for Silk Road traders of the 13th century. Then on to Nevsehir for dinner and overnight. 

Day 10- Cappadocia (B) (L) (D)

A full day to tour the incredible fairy land of Cappadocia. You’ll see one of the old cave houses, the Goreme open-air Museum containing dozens of painted cave-churches, the pottery making village of Avanos, the Zelve region and the underground city of Ozkonak, used by the early Christians of the region to escape from the invading Roman armies. At night enjoy an optional Turkish folk dance performance.

Day 11- Istanbul (B)

Short morning flight to Istanbul, where you can enjoy the remainder of the day shopping or visiting your favorite museum.

Day 12- Departure (B)

Transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
